Josefin Slab
A 1930s geometric with slabs, and the giveaway is the x-height: the lowercase is tiny against the capitals, which is exactly the proportion the period liked and exactly what makes a page of it hard work. The designer put it between Kabel and Memphis, and that is where it lands. It is variable across a 100 to 700 weight axis with a matching italic, so it is more flexible than it looks, but it is a display face wearing a text face suit. Latin only.

- Is Josefin Slab free for commercial use?
- Yes. Josefin Slab is released under the SIL Open Font License 1.1, which allows commercial use with no fee and no attribution requirement. You can use it in client work, in products you sell, on the web and in print. The one thing you may not do is sell the font file on its own. The licence is inside the download.
- Can I use Josefin Slab in a logo?
- Yes. The licence covers the font software, not the artwork you make with it, so a logo set in Josefin Slab belongs to you — including if you later register it as a trademark. You do not need permission and you do not owe anything to Santiago Orozco. What the licence stops you doing is redistributing the font file itself as a product.
- How do I install Josefin Slab?
- Download the zip and unzip it. On a Mac, select the 2 font files inside and open them, then press Install Font. On Windows, select them, right-click and choose Install. Restart any application that was already open before it will show up. Josefin Slab is a variable font: those files carry all 7 weights at once. Some older software — Word, Canva, and Photoshop before 2018 — reads only the one weight the file defaults to, and for Josefin Slab that is Thin (100), not the regular. If that happens, use the Static download on this page instead: it has 14 ordinary files, one per weight, and works everywhere.
- Does Josefin Slab support Turkish?
- No. Josefin Slab covers Latin, but not the extra characters Turkish needs — the dotless ı, the dotted İ, and ğ and ş. Turkish text set in it would come out with missing or wrong letters.
