Free graffiti fonts

Spray can and marker lettering from the street writing tradition.

About graffiti typefaces

How to recognise it

  • The texture of a spray can or a wide marker — overspray, drips, uneven edges.
  • Strokes that overlap and cross rather than meeting cleanly.
  • Extreme slant or exaggerated tails borrowed from tag lettering.
  • Almost always display only, and frequently capitals only.

Graffiti or marker?

Both come from a hand holding something. A marker face is handwriting; a graffiti face is a tag — drawn for effect, with the tool’s mess left in deliberately.

Where it works

Music, street culture, event posters, skate and sportswear graphics.

Where it does not

Small sizes and long text: the texture collapses and the letters merge. Also anything corporate, where it reads as fancy dress.
