Free fonts with Hebrew support

Before you choose a Hebrew font

Hebrew is written right to left, has no upper and lower case, and uses five letters that change shape at the end of a word — ך, ם, ן, ף and ץ. A font missing those sets every final letter wrongly, which is immediately visible to a reader.

The harder test is nikud, the vowel points written under and inside the letters. Many fonts contain the marks and position them badly: too low, too far left, or colliding with the letter above. Type a pointed word such as בְּרֵאשִׁית into the specimen and look at where the dots land.

For text that mixes Hebrew and Latin, check that the two were drawn to the same apparent size. Hebrew has no ascenders or descenders to speak of, so a Hebrew drawn to match Latin cap height usually looks too large beside it.
