What font does Netflix use?

Until 2018 Netflix set nearly everything in Gotham, the Hoefler & Co. geometric sans, and paid a licence fee for the privilege on a scale that grows with the number of screens you put it on. Netflix Sans, drawn by Dalton Maag, replaced it across the interface, the marketing, the subtitles and the billboards — the reported motive was ownership and cost, in that order.

It is a geometric sans with the corners taken off: rounder than Gotham in the bowls, a little narrower, and drawn with the specific problem of small white type on a dark screen in mind. If you have ever noticed that Netflix titles stay legible on a television across a room, this is part of why.

You cannot have it. It is not licensed, not sold and not published anywhere, and a file calling itself “Netflix Sans” on a download site is either a leak or something else wearing the name. What you can have is a geometric sans that answers the same brief, and the archive has several.
