Before you choose a Thai font

Thai is written without spaces between words, and its marks stack: a syllable can carry a vowel above the consonant and a tone mark above that. A font has to position both levels correctly, and the second level is where most fail — the tone mark either collides with the vowel or floats far above it.

The loops at the start of each letter — the หัว — are what distinguish one consonant from another. Modern loopless designs drop them for a cleaner look and become genuinely harder to read at small sizes, which is a real trade-off rather than a matter of taste. For body text, keep the loops.

Line height needs more room than a Latin setting: stacked marks reach high above the letters, and a leading chosen for English will clip them. Type a real sentence with tone marks into the specimen rather than trusting a character map.
