Libre Caslon Text
When in doubt, set it in Caslon — the oldest piece of advice in English typography, and until now this archive had no way to take it. Impallari's version is drawn for text rather than display: the x-height is larger than Caslon's own and the contrast is eased, both of which are what stops an eighteenth century face from falling apart at 16px on a screen. The italic keeps the original's slight unevenness of slope, which is a deliberate keep rather than an oversight.

- Yes. Libre Caslon Text is released under the SIL Open Font License 1.1, which allows commercial use with no fee and no attribution requirement. You can use it in client work, in products you sell, on the web and in print. The one thing you may not do is sell the font file on its own. The licence is inside the download.
